Plenty of calls end up somewhere else, and that is fine. A few habits are worth keeping anyway.

Go slow with detailsYour last name, your street and where you work are not first call material. There is no rush.
Hand out your number when you want toNot when you are pushed. Someone pressing hard for it early is telling you something.
Meet somewhere public firstA coffee shop or a restaurant with staff and other people around. Daytime is easier than late night.
Get yourself there and backDrive yourself or take your own ride, so leaving early is always your call.
Tell a friendGive one person the name, the place and roughly when you expect to be done.
Leave if it feels wrongYou do not need it to make sense first and you do not owe an explanation.
